Quinta da Vacariça Garrafeira 2014
Region: Bairrada
Producer: Quinta da Vacariça
François Chasans walks his own path and we are happy to follow. This headstrong Frenchman worked in the wine world all his life, first as a wine manager at the famous Maison Fauchon in Paris and then as an independent caviste, also in Paris. His wife is from the Bairrada region, and so he learned about the local Baga grape during a visit to the 1998 Expo in Portugal. He was immediately convinced of its gigantic potential and decided to make wine himself.
Today, he divides his time between Paris and Bairrada and after a start-up in silence and the necessary years of patient maturation of his wines, François recently came out with his wines.
These are distinctly traditionally made and showcase the Baga in all its glory. Quinta de Vacariça thus guarantees you wines brimming with character, firm in structure, completely at ease at the table with a good piece of meat, and well nigh indestructible.
This 2014 is not the most powerful wine; rain during harvest caused less concentrated wines in 2014, but there is no lack of character here. Personally, we are big fans of the so-called lesser years. Often the wines then have a lot of flavour and nice finesse.
