Casa da Passarella
Wine has been produced on this estate for centuries, but the previous owners lost interest in winemaking. In 2008 the estate came into new hands and since then the driven Paulo Nunes has been at the head of wine production.
Due to the limited acreage, Passarella's maximum production is limited to 30,000 bottles, but it is the owners' explicit choice not to expand further and, above all, to extract the maximum quality from the current plots.
Passarella, like the other top domains in the region, is located at the foot of the Serra da Estrela.
With the younger plantings there, Paulo makes the accessible cuvée Descoberta, in white with Encruzado, Malvasia and Verdelho, in red with a blend of Touriga, Tinta Roriz, Jaen and Alfrocheiro. The old plots are mostly field blends with numerous almost lost varieties. These make for storage wines such as the Oenologo and Fugitivo.
